Maris Sverns, Russian Translator and Content Creator (Madona, Latvia)
Maris is a Russian translator and website content creator. Maris's native language is Latvian, but has spoken Russian as a second language throughout his life. He graduated from the School of Printing Arts in Riga, Latvia and performed various operations at printing companies. An exciting and growth-promoting job followed in the editorial office of a newspaper, where he worked as a layout designer. After working for a long time as a layout designer at a water supply company, Maris shifted his focus to do freelance translation and website content creation work. Maris visited India twice on a spiritual quest. As a result of his interest in India, Maris created a website for Latvian readers about Indian philosopher and social reformer Narayana Guru, who inspired the Vaikom Satyagraha. This 1920s movement in Kerala fought against caste discrimination, aiming for equal access to public roads around the Vaikom Mahadeva Temple, and achieved its goal through nonviolent protests supported by Mahatma Gandhi. In his spare time, Maris translated works regarding the real impact of food on human health, learned Ayurveda and Ayurvedic massage, and practices energy breathing techniques and prana healing. In recent years, Maris has been learning French and enjoys traveling in the south of France in the autumn.
